To say the least, it is extremely troubling to hear on the televised new, or to read in a newspaper or via the Internet, that someone had disappeared after leaving home. From the young to the elderly, one moment they were at home, laughing and talking and the next, they are being reported to the police as missing.
Perhaps the following suggestions may be helpful in this area.
Tell Some
When you are leaving home for the day, weekend, or even for a few minutes, it is always wise to tell someone where you will be going and what you would be doing.
We seem to be living in an age in which many of us do not think that we need to tell anyone about what we are doing and where we are going. However, this is not such a good idea, it is always best to tell at least one person, about where you are going and what you would be doing.
Additionally, if it is possible, it is best to let that person see you, before you leave the house. By doing this, he/she would be able to see what clothes you were wearing and what you would be taking with you and the time in which you leave the house.
Call Home
Whenever you are away, although your parents and, or other loved ones know where you are, for example, at school, or at work. If you have access to a telephone, when you get the opportunity to do so, it is best to give them a call.
You may only get the answering machine, but that is okay, simply leave a message to let them know that you are alright.
If you would be away for the weekend, calling at regular times would also be a good idea.
Stranger Danger
It is best to keep away from strangers. Of course, this is not to say that you would not greet others, nor help someone who is asking for directions, no it is more about getting into a vehicle with a stranger and so forth.
Our parents may have told us never to get into a vehicle with an unknown person, but as we grow into adulthood and one day we may be running late for work, or we were extremely tired, we forget this advice. Yes, even just for a minute and we may find ourselves in a troubling situation.
Therefore, we must not forget that we need to be very watchful of strangers.
